Trump's Triumphs #6

Trump’s Triumphs: Undoing Obama's Legacy

For the eight years, conservatives watched as President Obama damaged our nation's reputation, its economy, and the values of most of its citizens. Now, redemption is at hand as the master of four dimensional chess, Donald Trump, strategically dismembers his predecessor’s legacy.

Here is a partial list of highlights:

IRAN DEAL: Trump called Obama’s signature foreign policy accomplishment “a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.” That the deal provided money to support terrorist activities and encouraged Iran to build a nuclear bomb seems lost on the Left.

TRANSPACIFIC PARTNERSHIP : Trump signed an executive order pulling the U.S. out of TPP, saying “We’re going to stop the ridiculous trade deals that have taken everybody out of our country and taken companies out of our country.” Trump, who has businesses all over the world, said the deal “doesn’t take into consideration currency manipulation because we get beaten in trade more by currency manipulation than any single other factor. So it’s not even discussed in the trade deal. …The other thing [some member countries] do and they do it despite agreements is they make it impossible to sell product in their countries…”

PARIS CLIMATE ACCORD : Last June, Trump pulled out of the Paris agreement, a cornerstone of O’s legacy, which provided a framework for countries to phase out fossil fuels and adopt clean energy practices. However,  it killed jobs and businesses in the US while benefiting nations like India and China, major polluters not held to the same standards in the agreement as developed nations. Therefore, the deal did little, if anything to actually prevent pollution.  Trump said, “This agreement is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States.”

HEALTH CARE:  With an executive order, Trump slashed Obamacare’s advertising budget, gave citizens only six weeks to sign up and reduced by 40 percent federal support for counsellors who helped people enroll. In October, the administration stopped paying subsidies to reimburse insurers for the reduced out-of-pocket costs for Obamacare enrollees. Though Republicans failed to directly repeal many parts of the Affordable Care Act, December’s GOP tax bill sent ACA on a death spiral by ending the individual mandate that required Americans to have health insurance or face a fine.

DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS: DACA gave nearly 800,000 illegals permits to work in America, provided they came to the US before they were 16 and had a crime-free career. When Trump ended the unconstitutional policy, he asked Congress to create law, but Congress has been too divided to act.
IMMIGRANT WORK PERMIT: In 2015, Obama signed an executive order that allowed the spouses of H1-B visa holders to work and open a business in the US through an H4 dependent visa. Now, the Trump administration is planning to revoke the rule to support the “Buy American, Hire American” order that Trump signed in April 2017.

DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD: The Trump administration is re-establishIing a Reagan-era rule that blocks recipients of Title X funding from 1) referring pregnant women to abortion clinics, and 2) operating under the same roof as an abortion clinic. Once implemented, the rule would effectively ban Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics from receiving federal funds through Title X.

TRANSGENDER IN THE MILITARY: He ordered the Pentagon to reverse an Obama-era policy that allowed transgender people to serve in the military.
Perry says Trump's move comes as the U.S. moves away from the political consensus in foreign policy that was enforced by the Cold War.

Sadly, the president seems to have lost his battle against Net Neutrality, at least for now. In December, Trump’s Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal Obama’s Open Internet Order that required internet service providers to treat all online traffic equally. Although this sounds good, in fact, Net Neutrality, according to Sen. John Thune (R-SD, would treat the Internet “as a public monopoly” and, according to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), “give the government more control [of the Internet.]”

Not surprisingly, the search for information about Trump’s administration in respects to Obama era policies resulted in a cache of fake news articles, most of which attributed the president’s desire to undo his predecessor's achievements to Trump’s humiliation at the 2011 White House press corps dinner, during which President Obama himself joked at future President Trump for even entertaining the idea of running for president. The Leftist press leaves out that Donald Trump campaigned on dismantling Obama policies which hurt most of the country and that citizens clamored for change.

In his Paris Climate Accord speech, Trump said, “One by one, we are keeping the promises I made to the American people during my campaign for president. Whether it’s cutting job-killing regulations, appointing and confirming a tremendous Supreme Court justice, putting in place tough new ethics rules, achieving a record reduction in illegal immigration on our southern border, or bringing jobs, plants, and factories back into the United States at numbers which no one until this point thought even possible."
“And believe me, we’ve just begun," he continued. "The fruits of our labor will be seen very shortly even more so.”
